Bachata - Popular guitar music, originating in the Dominican Republic, based on the bolero rhythm, while incorporating son, merengue, vals, and ranchera melodies.

Calypso - Originated in Trinidad, this Afro-Caribbean style of music derived from slaves, who were not allowed to speak, communicated through songs.

Chutney - 19th century music, created by Indian-Caribbean people transported to the West Indies as servants, usually written in Hindi, Bhojpuri, or English and then     given a Soca and Hindi.

Merengue - Type of joyful music based on a simple two-step pattern and requires a somewhat contemporary hip movement. It dates back to the mid-19th century, although its origin is not known definitely.

Reggae - Developed in Jamaica in the late 1960's and originated after the development of ska and rocksteady. This genre generally has a slower tempo, and is usually associated with the Rastafarian Movement.

Reggaeton - This Panama-born style of beats combines reggae/dancehall and that of Latin America. It became popular during the early 1990's as it spread worldwide.

Salsa - A diverse and predominately Spanish Caribbean type of music that incorporates aspects of jazz, rock, and African-Cuban melodies.

Soca - Dance music, originated in Trinidad, that combines the calypso genre and strong percussion sounds.

Zouk - A style of rhythmic music from the French islands of Guadeloupe and Martinique, with roots in kompa music from Haiti, and cadence music from Dominica.

Fungi this local British Virgin Island music is a blend of many different instruments and styles. This special sound is due to a unique local fusion between African and European music
